A place for prayer and community
The synagogue within Y38 in Jerusalem, at level −4. A prayer space for a Hassidic congregation, organised around the ark, tivah and seating arrangement.
Project story
Around the focus of prayer
Sha’ar Nikanor is the synagogue within Y38, at level −4. Designed for a Hassidic congregation, the prayer hall is organised around the ark and tivah, with a women’s gallery above.
The seating arrangement, central aisle and approach to the ark guide movement through the hall. The traditional prayer stand sits to the right and faces the ark. The relationship between the focus of prayer and movement through the interior underpins the plan.
